This county has adopted the following policy provisions:

1. A purpose statement or rationale making it clear why the policy is necessary.
2. Clear definitions of key terms like “tobacco” and “tobacco use.”
3. A definition for “tobacco” and/or “tobacco use” which includes any product containing nicotine, whether synthetic or natural.
4. Prohibits students from possession, use, or sale of tobacco products at all times, on all school district property, and at off-campus school-sponsored events.
5. Prohibits administrators, staff, and visitors from the use or sale of tobacco products at all times, on all school district property, and at off-campus school-sponsored events.
6. Prohibits promotion of tobacco products.
7. Prohibits acceptance of gifts from companies related to the tobacco (and/or vaping) industries.
8. Requires communication or notification of the policy via signage.
9. Requires age and culturally appropriate tobacco prevention education of all students.
10. Includes a narrow exception for limited use of FDA-approved cessation products which contain nicotine.
11. Provides opportunities for students and staff to access cessation resources and/or support.
12. Requires periodic evaluation of the policy and any programs or procedures related to the policy.
13. Percentage that currently use cigarettes, cigars, smokeless, hookah, or electronic vapor products. Addresses student enforcement (without requiring punitive or harmful consequences which remove students from the classroom).
14. Addresses staff enforcement.
15. Clearly defines visitor enforcement.
