The TFP of Marion works to mobilize community partners to establish long-lasting system and policy changes that promote tobacco-free social norms in public places and common areas, prevent usage of tobacco products by youth/young adults, and promote tobacco cessation.
The Marion County SWAT Chapter works to promotes smoke/vape free lifestyles by giving youth the chance to make a difference in the community, while also being part of a statewide movement. SWAT is by youth, for youth; creating a tobacco free Florida through youth empowerment, and activism.
In Marion County, 1 in 6 Youth (ages 11-17) vape or use another toxic tobacco product, 1 in 3 have tried vaping or another toxic tobacco product, and 60% are exposed to secondhand smoke (from cigarettes or EVPs).
Marion County’s local tobacco prevention initiatives focus on advancing local policies that reduce tobacco use in all its forms by impacting city and county policies for Tobacco Free Public Spaces, Marion County Public Schools, Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing, Retailer Point of Sale, reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, and supporting users who are ready to quit with cessation resources.
The Tobacco Free Partnership of Marion County is a coalition of community members and partner agencies actively working to reduce youth access and exposure to all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and other vaping devices.
