The Hernando Tobacco Intervention Partnership is a community-based coalition focused on preventing and reducing tobacco use among our youth in our community via local policy and systems change. Visit our website or email [email protected] for more information.
Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) is a youth-led advocacy organization dedicated to empowering youth to live tobacco/vape free. SWAT students advocate for local policy change to protect their generation from Big Tobacco. Visit our website or email [email protected] for more information.
Findings from the 2022 Florida Youth Tobacco survey indicate that 1 in 5 youths use Electronic Vapor Products (EVPs) in Hernando County. Approximately two-thirds (61%) of youth report exposure to secondhand smoke from cigarettes or EVPs.
Tobacco Free Florida staff are actively working on a variety of policy and systems change initiatives in Hernando County. These initiatives are designed to reduce tobacco use, protect public health, and promote tobacco-free environments across different sectors of the community. The four primary areas of focus include Zoning Policies (Point of Sale), Tobacco-Free Schools (K12), Tobacco-Free Parks and Beaches (TFPUB), and Interventions to Increase Cessation Access (CA).
Civic Communications (CivCom) is the state of Florida grantee responsible for the tobacco prevention programs of Hernando county. These programs support tobacco-free partnerships and Students Working Against Tobacco.
