Your Story Can Save Lives

Tobacco is still the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, but your story can help us encourage others to quit smoking.

Is This the Right Fit for You?

Are you a person who used to smoke and have been diagnosed or dealt with a smoking-related health condition, such as:

  • Cancer (e.g., oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, lung, bronchus, trachea, etc.)
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Lung disease and/or injury (e.g., asthma, pneumonia, emphysema)
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Complications during pregnancy or after childbirth linked to tobacco use (e.g., preterm birth, low birth weight, placental issues, or postpartum health challenges)
  • Other smoking-related conditions

Are you a loved one or caregiver of someone who is living with or has lived with a health condition caused by tobacco use?

Would You Be Willing To:

  • Share your story for a state-wide anti-smoking advertisement campaign?
  • Agree to a background check?
  • Ask your doctor to verify in writing that your tobacco use contributed to your health condition?
  • Complete all necessary paperwork?

You Will Receive:

Compensation

Each selected participant will receive a one-time payment for their time and involvement in the campaign.

Travel and Lodging

All accommodation and travel expenses related to filming will be fully covered.

Ongoing Support

Participants will have guidance and assistance available to them at every stage of the campaign’s process.

Respectful Storytelling

Every participant’s story will be handled with the utmost care, sensitivity, and respect for their personal experience.

The Campaign’s Goal Is To:

  • Raise public awareness about the immediate physical harm caused by smoking and tobacco use.
  • Motivate current smokers to quit and connect them with free resources and support.
  • Tell real, emotionally resonant stories, inspired by the CDC’s Tips From Former Smokers®, from people who have been impacted by tobacco use.

Participant Criteria:

To be considered, participants should:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Reside in the state of Florida
  • Have been smoke-free for at least six months
  • Have a personal, direct story about tobacco use and tobacco-related disease (your own or a loved one’s)
  • Be comfortable sharing their story publicly across video, digital, social, radio, and other media formats
  • Be available for filming and interviews during the production window
  • Provide informed consent for participation
  • Be willing to provide a physician’s affidavit confirming their health condition is related to tobacco use
